It’s one of those questions we’re frequently asking; “How are you doing?”. “Great” is the usual response. Almost nobody is honestly telling the other person what’s really going on.
Now of course, you don’t have to give an honest answer. The primary purpose of this ritual is to create an opening in the communication between people. The depth of your answer is probably depending on to whom you’re talking to.
How often are you asking this question to yourself? And are you aware of how you’re feeling on this moment, right now?
Natural leadership starts with honestly looking at yourself. I have created my own daily ritual in which I allow myself to consciously feel my feelings. It gives me information about my dreams, beliefs and fears. This has such a huge impact on creating what matters to me most.
So let’s go to you now and find out what you can do to get in touch with yourself and boosting your effectiveness.
1. Plan the moment(s) for self-reflection and create a trigger.
This may be an alarm in your phone, or anything else that works for you.
2. Stop what you’re doing and ask yourself “what is the most profound sensation in my body?”.
Describe the feeling for yourself. Is there an emotion or thought connected to this feeling?
3. Write down your findings. You may discover patterns or specific moments.
4. Fully accept what’s going on.
Don’t have negative thoughts about this. You’re extremely brave in honestly facing the truth. This is where transformation starts.
5. Ask yourself if you’d like to take a specific action.
You may wish to do some writing, deep breathing to relax, or doing some sports. What is the first thing that pops up in your mind? Just decide for yourself what it is you really need at this moment.
The more this process of self-reflection has become a natural process, the more conscious you will become. Knowing how you’re doing will increase your effectiveness in connecting and communicating with others.
I’m inviting you now to honestly answer the question for yourself “How are you REALLY doing?”.
